HairQueen News

Last December, salons were closed. Then came 2021 and all it entailed.

I'm so grateful the salon is open now!

We got our vaccines, stylists continued to work masked, clients stayed masked. Professionally, my love for hair and you, my clients, got me through.

What a relief to be fully vaccinated!

On the personal side, I became a Glamma again!

Isla, her new little sister, Pali Lu, plus my family and friends got me through the rest of it all.

Isla and Pali Lu

What helped you get through this past year?

Is it the booster, the chance to gather with friends and family, the opportunity to begin to travel again, or maybe just the ability to breathe a little easier? All of these are true for me.

Swans Studios News

I am still looking for a new person to join Swans Studios. I made the decision that Swans Studios is a vaccine-only environment, this is why the space is open. It has been many years since I have had an opening. Before Covid, people were clamoring to join us. Post Covid is a different reality.

If you know any hair stylists, barbers or estheticians ready for their next step in the salon world, please send them my way; they must be vaccinated. I look forward to meeting them.

If you would like to rotate into my one-day-a-week schedule call 510-545-2955 or email, suzanne@suzannevanhouten.com or click here to book online.  Happy End of Summer!

Bad Hair Days Happen In Between The Good Hair Days

Hairqueen News My transition into retirement continues, it’s a bit like growing out your hair or your hair color.  It’s exciting at first to try something new, but then the reality sets in, your bangs are in your eyes, your grey is showing.  Will you like the new look, will you feel like yourself, will you regret it and go back? The only way to find out is to try. I find in my retired life, like growing out hair there are some bad hair days.  On those days, I miss my color bowls and foils, the sounds and the smells of the salon. And all of you. Yet, I’m grateful that my one-day-a-week schedule continues to be a win, win. I get to see some of you and I get my salon fix.  Just last week I cut a super cute pixie from a bob, (that’s short hair from mid-length hair for those of you not in the know :). This month I've had the chance to review and reduce my inventory. I have some items on sale at 25% off. Come by and shop or contact me for more information. ...

Working hard to get those votes!  Dear Clients and Friends, I trust you are well and enjoying the season of gratitude as best one can. How time has flown since my retirement of full-time hair services and salon ownership. I am writing this Blog to shamelessly ask you to vote for me in a contest.  When I enrolled in the contest I did not realize what an undertaking it would be. I am committed to see it through to the end! The contest is FabOver40, it is both a beauty contest and a fundraiser for breast cancer. Here is the link to the contest:  FabOver40 My profile page on the site gives you information as to why I would like to win and here I am sharing more details. I would like to be the biggest fundraiser for The National Breast Cancer Foundation.  I'd like to win for my younger self and every, girl and woman that has suffered a loss due to cancer, an accident or an autoimmune disease. I wrote the story below in an Autobiography writing class last fall a...
