April Showers

HairQueen News

It is Spring and time to think about a Spring Haircut or Fresh Spring Hair Color.  Recently I took a Balayage Class to freshen up my color skills.  Balayage means to "sweep" or "paint" in French.  With this technique I am able to create softer less noticeable regrowth lines.  This is especially helpful for blond and silver haired clients. The principal idea being less is more when creating soft natural looks.  Although of course as is often the case to create something simple takes time, technique, and expertise.  If you would like find out if this technique is right for you, let's talk at your next hair appointment.

In the meantime here is a recent example of a Balayage for a Brunette whose hair I have been reverting from all over Color to Prestige Silver and Brunette.

Hair Promotion

My long time client, Chuck, a deadhead and all around good guy, wrote a little ditty for me called,
"She Loves To Put The Product In Your Hair".

It's true, I do because:

  • A good product supports a good haircut.
  • A good product supports a finished hairstyle.
  • A good product adds shine and texture and hold.
  • A good product makes you look dashing and sexy and young and fabulous.

For the month of April, I'm offering a Buy One Get One 15% Off promotion on all Framesi BY products.  Next time you are in, let's talk about the perfect BY Framesi styling product for you.

Runs Businesses With Scissors

There are periods of time as a small business owner that things seem to sail along so nicely and then boom it hits and all hell breaks loose!  I recently had a situation like that and it was so hard.  Oh, I wanted to walk away from it, but I could not because I was the boss of the situation and I had to take care of my business.  I took my time responding to the situation and I reached out for help.  Thank goodness I have my support systems and support people in place.  I am humbled that even after all theses years, many ups and downs, successes and failures, I am still learning that I can be caught by surprise. Once more I had to dust off my management skills, roll up my sleeves, and jump in.

Consulting Promotion

You did it made to another tax deadline, despite the day to day running of your business, the ups and downs, the success and and failures. To ease the pain a bit, for the month of April, I'm offering a Schedule One Get One $15 Off promotion.

The only caveat is that one of the appointments must be scheduled for the month of April. So if you schedule two appointments at once, and one of the appointments is scheduled for April, the total order will be discounted by $15.  Every little bit helps right?

Come on make your appointment now and keep up with the super success of your business.  Remember it is as important to work on your business as in your business.  Call me or email me now: 510-545-2955 or suzanne@suzannevanhouten.com

Bad Hair Days Happen In Between The Good Hair Days

Hairqueen News My transition into retirement continues, it’s a bit like growing out your hair or your hair color.  It’s exciting at first to try something new, but then the reality sets in, your bangs are in your eyes, your grey is showing.  Will you like the new look, will you feel like yourself, will you regret it and go back? The only way to find out is to try. I find in my retired life, like growing out hair there are some bad hair days.  On those days, I miss my color bowls and foils, the sounds and the smells of the salon. And all of you. Yet, I’m grateful that my one-day-a-week schedule continues to be a win, win. I get to see some of you and I get my salon fix.  Just last week I cut a super cute pixie from a bob, (that’s short hair from mid-length hair for those of you not in the know :). This month I've had the chance to review and reduce my inventory. I have some items on sale at 25% off. Come by and shop or contact me for more information. ...

Endings and Beginnings

HairQueen News: I celebrated a big milestone, forty years of being a hairstylist and 25 years as a business owner. I was planning to completely retire but then I decided to keep the “tip of my scissors” in for a while longer. This decision means I am free to step into a new phase of life as I gradually let go of my wonderful salon career. We had a party — it was fantastic! I loved every minute. My heart overflowed as my clients, colleagues, and family helped me mark this major career milestone.                                                                                                                                              ...
