Story of the Month
Before - My short pixie cut |
After - More length & side-swept bangs |
What I love most about the new year is discovering a new look! As your stylist I want to challenge you to consider a new look for 2014 and have some fun with you hair in the new year. Now, I can’t challenge my clients if I’m not willing to do this myself. As some of you may have noticed I’ve decided to grow my pixie cut out and I really love the results.
Now some might not thing that growing your hair out is not a very dramatic new look, but that is only because it takes time for the results to show. You don't have to shave your head to get the WOW factor. Sometimes all it takes is a little hi-lighting or parting your hair differently. So whether you want a subtle change or you want to dye your hair auburn, the #1 piece of advice I would give is, stay true to yourself. Make sure you make a fun change that is all for you, not because it is the new Hollywood trend or because someone made an off-handed remark about your hair and you are feeling self-conscious. If you would like to talk through a style change or discuss some options feel free to book an appointment at www.suzannevanhouten.com and we can get started on your new hair resolution!
Hair Queen News
I would like to share with you
the number of clients on the East Coast that I have. Yes, you read that right,
I have some clients that live and/or work quite a bit in the DC area. I’m so
humbled that these clients, although they have moved away/or work primarily out
of the state continue to come see me as their primary hairstylist. It is an
honor that my work is being seen across the country and even in the White
House. This is very exciting for me and these clients have been kind enough to
provide testimonials of their experience.
“I do love working
with Suzanne on my image. As a professional who travels to Washington DC for
meetings in Congress and at the White House, I need to look my best with ease.
The quality and craftsmanship of Suzanne’s work is perfect.” ~ Kathy Ko
Chin
“I moved to DC
temporarily and I have just never found a hairstylist I like as much as Suzanne
Whenever I come home to Oakland, I do whatever I can to get into see her.
My colleagues in DC notice and compliment me- they notice the difference!” ~ Carol G.
“My husband and I both
went to Suzanne to get sophisticated new haircuts for a move to Washington DC.
The new haircuts were great. We keep coming back (yes, 3000 miles) every chance
we get. In fact Mark had an appointment with Suzanne this past weekend!” ~Lucia & Mark Savage
Runs Businesses with Scissors
This month I wanted to share with you the value of team.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “There is no I in TEAM” and it couldn’t be truer.
As a business owner we always think we have to do it all, where 6-10 different
hats, and run ourselves into the ground to get everything done. I do think
it is essential for business owners to know how to do everything and more specifically, know how they
want things done, but there also comes a point where you have to delegate and
trust other team members to do their part and support their part of the
business.
Freeing time from your plate will allow you to be a more creative
business owner and allow you to share ideas with other team members to make the
business as a whole stronger. Whether it is accounting, marketing (shout out to my marketing guru Kate, if you need help with your website, newsletter, or social media give Kate a call at 812.320.8729), operations, or other services, there may be someone else out there that can manage that
part of your business better than you can. It doesn’t make you a bad business
owner to give up tasks; in face it makes you a stronger and wiser business owner to know when and how to delegate.
